Project Description;

The St Pol de Leon Church Restoration project was aimed at making this Grade I listed church more ‘inclusive’ for use as a Heritage Centre. The work consisted of the total restoration of the historic Memorial East Window previously installed in 1918. Classic Builders were sensitive to the windows provenance as it had been ranked the most important stained glass window from any age by the Diocese of Truro. The soft and crumbling polyphant stone was closely matched with new stone carved locally in Mabe, using Forest of Dean Sand Stone.

The internal work included a bespoke oak kitchen reclaimed from the former vestry, improvements were made to all entrances including bespoke joinery items. Internally Classic Builders installed a brand new heating system, WiFi system and up-dated hearing loop. Careful planning was required to excavate through the existing graveyard under an archaeological brief, whilst constructing a disabled access WC and sewage pump. We were pleased that uninterrupted church access and service was maintained throughout the project.
