A site visit by Cheriton Bishop Community Primary School saw the Classic Builders team welcome students to the new housing development being built-in their village. The school took the opportunity to visit the site, currently under construction, for some curriculum based learning. The students developed their English, Science, Maths and Art in a fun and visual way.
Dressed in their Classic Builder’s hard hats and high visibility vests, the children enjoyed a tour of one of the homes. This was followed by a talk focusing on key environmental features of the houses such as triple glazed windows, wall construction, roof insulation and air tightness. The importance of the company’s positive environmental impact was explained and topics of discussion centred around site waste reduction and minimising travel to and from site.
The reception classes enjoyed spotting all the potential dangers on a building site and how they are controlled. They also learnt about the measures put in place to keep all site staff safe which included a demonstration using a hard hat and a coconut! The children have now been asked to write an energy essay or design a health and safety poster as part of a construction competition. Prizes will be awarded and presented to the winners by Classic Builders at the primary school in the near future.
