Project; Rolle Building

Location; City Centre, Plymouth

Client; Plymouth University

Contract; circa £500k

Duration; 36 weeks.

Project Description;

Classic Builders was appointed to improve the existing access to the well-known Rolle Building and create new learning spaces for students.

The Rolle Building (one of the university’s key assets) is home to the Faculty of Health and Human Sciences, specialist teaching spaces for education and music courses, the university’s Graduate School, administrative space and scientific laboratories.

The university’s objective was to dramatically improve accessibility, quality of use and deliver enhanced teaching spaces for all applicable students to use. Classic Builders remodelled the principal public entrance to create a highly-accessible and modern welcome area. The existing walk-through section of the building was removed to make room for new facilities and teaching accommodation.

To ensure timely delivery of programme, key items of the existing areas of the building were retained and reused. Glazing, door furniture and Plymouth stone were reused to minimise the visual impact of the works and create a seamless transition from the existing building to the newly added additions.
