Project; Seaton Beach (PassivHaus Plus Apartments)
Location; Seaton, Devon
Client; Seaton Beach Developments
Contract; £2.4m
Duration; circa 60 weeks.
Project Description;
Seaton Beach Apartments is the very first multi block PassivHaus Plus apartments in the United Kingdom. Classic Builders was awarded the contract based on the company’s reputation and competitive pricing. The project is located in the picturesque coastal town of Seaton in East Devon. The unique project included the demolition of an existing residential property and construction of the five storey luxury apartment block. Great care was taken with the unique construction methodology to ensure accurate detailing and close quality management were both championed. A distinctive attribute of the project is that is occupies the full width of the site – resulting in extremely limited access with little additional space on site for materials, storage and plant.
Proximity to the coast was an additional consideration as works were programmed to be completed during inclement months. However, the eight PassivHaus Plus apartments were delivered to specification and obtained an air permeability test result of 0.5.air changes per hour. Due to the extremely high finishing standards and exceptional specification (including a 16KW array of photovoltaic panels, uninterrupted sea views, allocated secure parking, outdoor storage, secure internal access, lift access to all floors and a high comfort mechanical heat recovery system). The apartments command between £524,000 and £970,000 in value. Seaton Beach is one of the most distinctive, sustainable and sophisticated developments in the South West of England and is 2050 carbon ready.
This project won the 2019-2020 United Kingdom International Property Awards Best Apartment in Devon Award and The Best Sustainable Residential Development in the UK.
This project has been nominated as a finalist for the 2020 Michelmores Property Awards – Residential Project Of The Year (35 units and under).
