Classic Builders is proud to reveal it has recently participated in an innovative careers and guidance event at Launceston College. The college is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form academy in Cornwall.

Set over an eight-hour period, the event focussed on inviting key industry representatives to meet with Year 10 students, discuss their relevant fields of expertise, dispel any preconceptions the students may have about career paths and answer questions about possible opportunities within construction. Classic Builders invited the pupils to discuss what they knew about the construction sector and which careers may appeal to them.

Classic Builders listened to the thoughts and opinions of the students before presenting a captivating overview of the construction industry. The presentation included key messages about types of construction, differing project types, the variety of available careers, associated career paths, typical challenges within the sector and clear information dispelling any preconceptions the students may have regarding suitability, gender, career aspirations, opportunities and salaries. Students were then asked to share which school subject they enjoyed the most whilst Classic Builders representatives explained how that specific subject could be linked to a prosperous career in construction. The students were then invited again to discuss what they knew about the sector and touch on how their opinions of a career in construction had changed. Classic Builders’ Business Development Manager, Lewis Tolputt, had this to say –

“It’s been a real pleasure to visit Launceston College today and work with students to help them understand the exciting possibilities a career in construction can offer them. Many of the students initially hadn’t thought about a career within our industry but by the end of the day each student understood how a career within the sector could be linked to their favourite subject.”

Everyone at Classic Builders would like to wish all Launceston College Year 10 students the very best of luck with the next two years of their education.
