Project; Homeless Centre

Location; Pool, Cornwall

Client; Coastline Housing Services

Contract; £2.1m

Duration; circa 52 weeks.

Project Description;

Classic Builders is exceptionally proud to deliver Cornwall’s newest state-of-the-art homeless centre in Pool. Set over two floors, the timber frame building includes 18 self-contained flats, a medical surgery, re-skilling facilities, an IT suite, detached ‘moving-on’ units, support services and vital emergency resources for those finding themselves homeless during extreme weather conditions.

Commissioned by Coastline Housing Services and match funded by Homes England, the property is Cornwall’s flagship centre for taking a proactive approach to homelessness. Specifically designed to offer its users security, safety, support and the opportunity to re-skill and move-on; the project sets a new benchmark for design, capabilities and approach to supporting those with a housing crisis. Cornwall Council holder for homes Andrew Mitchell had this to say –

“I hope the quality and excellence of this facility sets the standard for provision needed across Cornwall.”

The project represents more than ten years of hard work and determination from Coastline Housing Services. Despite initial hurdles, perseverance paid off and an appropriate site was eventually identified. Classic Builders was appointed to construct the centre based on experience delivering comparable complex projects and the company’s distinct competitiveness. Lewis Tolputt Business Development Manager for Classic Builders had this to add –

“Projects like these don’t come along every day, having the opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of so many people has been a true privilege for everyone at Classic Builders. As a company, we must pay thanks to Coastline Housing Services – it has been a pleasure working with them, Trewin Design (the project’s architects) have been extremely professional to work with. Special thanks must be paid to Paul Postlethwaite at Classic Builders. He and his team have served us proud in not only producing a high-quality project but also a clear representation of what is achievable when like-minded proactive professionals work together.”

The project faced a number of challenges during construction (including a late change to incorporate a sophisticated heat recovery system) but thanks to the foresight of all involved the end product has exceeded all expectations and sets a new standard in Cornwall.

Classic Builders would like to thank all involved for delivering such an important project and wish the very best to all those using the incredible facility.
