Project Description;

The award winning Heritage project of the year 2018, Higher Mill dates back to 1795 and is part of a valuable group of buildings in Buckfast Abbey. Set within Dartmoor National Park, it is one of the best examples of mill buildings with English Heritage listing the building as grade II in 1933.

The aim was to restore the building from its previous role as storage and ancillary use to new lettable work spaces. This required design, alteration and conversion of the existing building into office accommodation, a retail unit and storage. The work comprised of extensive refurbishment, completely designed M&E installation (offering ventilation), and an up-to-date IT infrastructure, whilst not compromising the listed elements of the building.

The internal finishing’s were designed to sympathise with, and showcase the listed features that remain within the structure. An example being the removal of an existing external stained glass window designed back into the internal structure, maintaining the original build aesthetics.
